Manelisi's Urban Farm
about our farm

Manelisi's Urban Farm is small-scale, community focused farm in Gugulethu. We are constantly searching for new partners to bring our produce to our town and beyond.

Women of the soil

The Women of the Soil are the original owners of the farm. They have been so kind to invite us to their land and grow our crops. Lovingly referred to as "The Grannies", they tend to and cultivate their individual plots of land. Their determination brings our farm so much life. Sometimes they'll even share their incredible wisdom and stories as we work.

Rosie Campbell

Rosie of Design for development has helped our farm get off the ground immensely. She led the branding of Manelisi's Urban Farm and brought partnerships with organizations looking to donate.

Thimna Mawarana

One of our youngest helpers on the farm, Thimna brings an incredible work ethic and attitude everyday he's in Fezeka. Starting in 2019, Thimna is an essential contributor to the growth and harvesting of the vegetables, developing his passion through years of hard work. Thimna’s favorite work on the farm includes planting and harvesting season, and his favorite vegetable to grow is spring onion. With dreams of farming in the future, Thimna is constantly working to bring his uncle's farm to its best.

siya mapukata

Siya is Manelisi's oldest son and a dutiful helper around the farm. He always brings great music and an even better attitude to his work. Siya has been working on the farm for three years but has been learning from his father from a very young age. Siya’s favorite farm activities include harvesting and planting with Thimna, and his favorite vegetables to plant include spinach and cabbage. Siya is a crucial part of the team and is looking forward to developing the farm into his father’s vision.
